Cop killed, 3 hurt in outpost attack
A POLICEMAN was killed while three others were wounded after the New People's Army (NPA) attacked a police detachment in Davao Oriental Sunday morning.
Davao Oriental police director Candido Casimiro and Regional Mobile Group Southern Mindanao head Lorenzo Holinday said the clash happened around 6:45 a.m. at the outpost of 1105th Provincial Mobile Group in sitio Tambak, Barangay Baculin in Baganga, Davao Oriental.
The rebels attacked the police outpost resulting in a firefight that killed PO1 Jose Subron and injured PO1 Castillones, PO1 Malimbogalimbog and a certain dela Peña.
The firefight reportedly lasted for more than 40 minutes.
Prior to the incident, authorities received information that rebels would attack the provincial mobile group camp, prompting them to reinforce their security around the site. But rebels instead attacked the outpost.
Meanwhile, an ambush Thursday by suspected communist rebels killed two soldiers and wounded six others in separate incidents in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. (BOT/With reports from Peng Aliño)
