Mayor says 'no comment' on ex-guv's mayoralty plan

ISLAND Garden City of Samal Mayor Rogelio Antalan remained mum Sunday on reports that former Davao del Norte governor Rodolfo del Rosario is being pushed to run for Igacos mayor after Antalan reaches his term limit in 2007.

Antalan said "no comment" on the City Council resolution urging del Rosario to become the next mayor of Samal.

What’s your opinion on Arroyo’s emergency rule? Post comment.

The plan to have del Rosario run as mayor of Samal in 2007 is reportedly gaining ground as many sectors expressed their support for the move.

Among those who expressed support is the Bagong Lakas ng Samal, which is a non-government organization headed by businesswoman Susan Durano.

In a statement, the group whose members run to few thousands, said del Rosario is most qualified to be the mayor of Samal considering his extensive background in government service.

The question, however, is if del Rosario would accept such an offer.

Del Rosario has not made any reaction on the matter.

Unconfirmed reports showed that Antalan was planning to have a relative run for mayor in 2007 prior to the passing of the City Council resolution.

Samal City Council unanimously passed the resolution last January 31 urging del Rosario to run for mayor in 2007. (BOT)
