Eventful week for 69th Araw ng Dabaw

MONDAY marked the four-day countdown to the much-awaited 69th Araw ng Dabaw celebration with various events expected to attract both locals and visitors.

Monday was also the Pagdiriwang ng mga Empleyado, the celebration of City Government employees for the charter anniversary of Davao City. From 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., civil servants from different departments held various competitions at Rizal Park, such as the Hataw Sayaw Pop Dance Contest, Hataw Sayaw Cheer Dance Contest, and Kantahan Amateur Singing Contest.

Monday night saw the grand finals of Huni sa Dabaw where 10 songwriting entries by Dabawnyo composers competed for top prizes at SM City Davao Entertainment Plaza at 6:00 p.m.

Energy FM will have a free concert from 8:00 p.m. to midnight at Rizal Park.

Today, Kasikas sa Garbo will fill the Centennial, Quezon, Rizal and Osmeña parks with various musical and cultural simultaneous performances. This will run from 2:00-8:00 p.m.

The annual Datu Bago Awards will hold their ceremonies at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, honoring Dabawenyos who have brought honor and contributed to the development of the city. RMN will also hold their free party with Pop Fiesta show at PTA Grounds.

On Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., the eve of the grand celebration, will also be the Coronation Night of the 2006 Araw ng Dabaw at the CAP Auditorium.

The entire city will finally come together and celebrate Araw ng Dabaw on Thursday, with a series of exciting outdoor and street events starting with the Parada Dabawenyo and Banda Hudyaka along the major streets of the city from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Banda Hudyaka will have its showdown performances at 2:00 p.m. in Rizal Park.

SM City Davao will host a show for the famous Pinoy Big Brother housemates. All 13 original cast of the reality show will be in Davao including our very own Cassandra Ponti and matinee idol Sam Milby.

Gaisano Mall will also hold their Munting Mutya Coronation Pageant at 3 p.m. while MOR will have their Kapamilya Concert at the PTA Grounds featuring various
ABS-CBN stars and local talents at 7:00 PM.

As a gift to the Dabawenyos, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will sponsor Alay Konsyerto ni Mayor featuring popular pop band Hale and actress Anne Curtis, a free concert at Rizal Park.

The celebration continues with various continuing and post-Araw ng Dabaw events, such as the 1st Davao Great Outdoor Week at Riverfront Corporate City (March 6-12), Piging sa Da'n at Roxas Avenue and Agro Industrial Trade Fair at the PTA Grounds (March 10-16), City Government Services Expo at SM City Davao (March 11-18), Bangka Rally at Times Beach, Randy Santiago Mall Tour at SM City Davao and Araw ng Dabaw Street Party at SM City Parking C (March 18), 1st Invitational Airsoft Competition at SM City Development Area (March 18-19), and John Lloyd Cruz Live at SM City Entertainment Plaza (March 19).
