Davao's Arigo is bowling champ
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

RICHARD Arigo of Davao City hacked out a rousing victory at home, stunning the veteran and top-visiting bowlers to rule the 1st Araw ng Dabaw Classic Tenpin Tournament Sunday at the B3 bowling alleys in NCCC Mall.

The 32-year-old Arigo, a member of the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba), toppled Jerry Lim of Viking Manila in the finals, 244-178, to pocket the P15,000 champion's purse and a trophy.

Lim got P10,000 and a trophy for placing second, while Bel Suelto Jr. of BTA Cebu finished third, good for P5,000 and a trophy.

Lawyer Joseph Flores of Datba and Wilfredo Kho of Viking Manila placed third fourth, respectively for P2,000 each.

Arigo ranked only 12th out of the top 24 players who advanced, but slowly worked his way to victory in the three-day event organized by Datba.

In reaching the final round, Arigo averaged 199 pinfalls, eight better than Suelto's 191. Flores had 190, Lim 188 and Kho 187.

Aside from the top five finishers, bowlers who made it to the top 24 include Yule Tamlinco, Benito Cong, Ian Ancheta, Enriqueto Uy, William Chua, Jonhson Choa, Roel Gimarino, Boy Betarmons, Billy Magdale; Alfonso Uy, James Young, Francis See, Manny Nierra, Robert Tiu, Gary Snyder, Fabian Cua, Nonoy Lacuesta, Manny Siongco and Allison Go.
