2 illegal abattoirs operating in Agdao
DAVAO City Administrator Wendel E. Avisado said he will direct the City Veterinarian's Office (CVO) to conduct meat inspections in Agdao Public Market.
Avisado was reacting to dxAB report that two illegal slaughterhouses are operating at the market for several years already. According to the report, the two slaughterhouses are operating without business permits. It was not granted a permit to operate because it was not able to comply with sanitation prerequisites.
"We will direct the City Veterinarian's Office to immediately look into this," Avisado said in an interview Wednesday.
After the inspection, Avisado said the CVO will be ordered to send their recommendation.
"So that we can inform the Mayor (Rodrigo Duterte) and get his immediate instruction on the matter," he said.
Avisado added that the city only recognizes one slaughterhouse -- the Ma-a slaughterhouse.
In an earlier interview, City Veterinarian Amado C. Barbadillo said they have been monitoring all operating slaughterhouses in the city and vowed to implement a more rigid inspection this year. (BRQ)
