Nation will be stronger with Arroyo ousted: Virador
IN HIS usual fighting mood, Bayan Muna party-list Representative Joel Virador dismissed claims of the military that "the nation will fall if the soldiers decide to side with the public who are already very much disgruntled with the present situation."
In a press release, Virador said the statement made by military spokesperson Colonel Tristan Kison where the colonel said the military has been the target of destabilization plots "is excessive and outright lie."
"While it is true that the AFP plays a crucial role in keeping Mrs. Arroyo at the mantle of power. But it is excessive and outright lie for the AFP to say that this nation will fall apart if the people's soldiers chose to side with the public who are already very much disgruntled with the present situation," Virador said.
Virador, who is currently under protective custody of Congress, scored Kison's statement and reiterated the crimes of the President as the real culprit in the growing split in the military.
And while the militant lawmaker acknowledged that the military establishment is the only thing that is currently sustaining the administration's hold in power, such condition nevertheless remains fragile.
"A leader who has lost any semblance of support from the media, business, church and all major sectors of the country would naturally be dependent on the military as the only source of artificial authority. Mrs. Arroyo is a very unpopular president and in her desperation to remain in power, she have no other recourse but to rely heavily and solely on her military. If the President is unable to rule by heart, then Arroyo is reduced to rule by force," Virador added.
The defiant solon called on all concerned and freedom-loving citizens to defy the government's plan to turn the country into a martial law state, if it hasn't already, just to maintain GMA's stranglehold to power.
He added that the nation will be stronger and more united if the source of the turbulence, which is Arroyo, is removed.
"The fracture in the chain of command commenced when the marines and other armed elements of the state went beyond their duties and were used by Mrs. Arroyo to steal the people's votes. The discontent of our soldiers towards their Commander-In-Chief didn't emerge overnight. The military's restlessness was molded by cyclical abuses, exploitations and neglect by those in the military top brass and Mrs. Arroyo herself," Virador said.
He added: "The current situation shows that even the armed forces had enough of Mrs. Arroyo. Apparently, the President's power now hangs by a thread with most of our government institutions fractured and weakened by her persistent lies, deceit, treachery, and tyranny." (Press release)
