Duterte thanks residents for celebrating rainy Araw
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte thanked the Dabawenyos for their participation in the just concluded Araw ng Dabaw celebration despite the heavy downpour last week that almost led to the cancellation of the parade.
In his television program, "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" Sunday, Duterte said the people's participation in Thursday's parade showcased Dabawenyos' "united effort and spirit."
"We have to keep the spirit alive and I thank the Dabawenyos for their cooperation despite the heavy rain that day. It goes to show we have a very united effort and spirit," Duterte said.
Last Thursday's parade would have been cancelled had it not been for Duterte's insistence to keep on as scheduled rain or shine.
The mayor said his decision is not for fanfare purposes but more importantly to send a message especially to the young that "despite all the adversities life must go on." (BOT)
