Exec flattered by mayoral nomination, leaves decision to party
By Ben O. Tesiorna

SECRETARY Rodolfo del Rosario admits he is flattered by talks that local leaders in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) want him as their next mayor, but said the ultimate decision will come from his political party.

Del Rosario belongs to the same political party of incumbent Mayor Rogelio Antalan.

Congratulations to the graduates of 2006! Post your graduation experiences and greetings here.

"It is, strictly speaking, a Lakas party matter and must be addressed by the whole body. But, while I cannot comment on the endorsement resolution, I would like to make it clear that I will support any candidacy that would guarantee or hasten the growth of Samal because Samal is very close to my heart," del Rosario said.

He added, "I am very flattered for the confidence the leaders of Samal have shown through the resolution passed last week endorsing my candidacy for mayor of the city come elections in 2007. I will be studying the matter very carefully and I can only promise that I will have the best interest of Samal in mind when I make my decision."

Del Rosario said he would conduct dialogues "with all those concerned within the Lakas party and in the communities around Samal" so that they could come up with a consensus on what to do next.

In the meantime, del Rosario urged all Samalenos to focus their energies on building a better, stronger Samal and Davao del Norte.

Antalan, the first mayor of Samal as a city, is no longer qualified to run in 2007 as he has already served for three consecutive three-year terms.
