Panabo to ask nothing during Arroyo's visit

PANABO City Mayor Rey Gavina said he will ask nothing from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when she comes to visit Panabo during the 5th anniversary of its cityhood.

Congratulations to the graduates of 2006! Post your graduation experiences and greetings here.

Gavina, speaking before the weekly Talakayan sa Panabo last Thursday, said they would not badger the President for funds particularly in asking the needed budget for some of the infrastructure programs and other projects of the city.

"We just invited her and when the President comes we will welcome her with open arms. It is a big honor for us that she would accept our invitation," Gavina said.

He said they are preparing for the Presidential visit.

Meetings among the organizers and the city officials are held every Friday afternoon in preparation of Arroyo's visit.

Gavina added P500,000 to augment the P1 million fund for the city anniversary.

Although the mayor is not expecting any Presidential dole out, he said, he would be happy if ever the President would give assistance to the city, particularly on the completion of the P160 million City hall and the modern gymnasium, which needs an infusion of P60 million for its completion.

"If she gives for example the funds for the completion of the gymnasium then I will propose that the gymnasium be named the Diosdado Macapagal Cultural Center or the City Hall be named Diosdado Macapagal City Hall (named after Arroyo's father," said Gavina.

But he reiterated that he would not be asking for the completion of the City hall and the gymnasium from the President.

"The Chief Executive has given so much to the City of Panabo," he said.

Gavina enumerated the P205 million worth of projects, which the President gave to Panabo in 2003 through then governor Rodolfo del Rosario.

The funds were used to finance the concreting and upgrading of the City's thoroughfares and were also used to build the Panabo coastal road project.

The presidential visit, Gavina said, would showcase Panaboans warm hospitality, as it would also give them the opportunity to thank the President for all her support to the fledgling city. (PIA/RG Alama)
