Mati hosts national skimboard competition

POSITIONING its potential in the fastest growing water-based sports of skimboarding, Mati is hosting this year's national competition which will see participants from all over the country.

Whoosh-Davao and the municipal government of Mati is organizing this year's event which aims to promote Dahican beach as a prime spot for wave riding in the region.

The sports event will be held from April 8-9 at the picturesque Dahican.

Expected participants are from Davao, Butuan, Misamis Oriental, Dipolog City, Cagayan de Oro City, Cebu, Leyte, Iligan, Negros Occidental, Tandag, Lanuza and Mati.

There are two major categories for the wave riding event-advance and masters.

Top winner for the master's category will receive P10,000 while the advance category winner will take home P7,000. One thousand pesos each will also be given to the best long ride, best in tricks and wipe-out special categories.

This is the second time Mati is hosting such an event.

Last year, about 52 skimmers attended the 1st Mindanao-wide Open Skimboarding competition. Due to the positive response in last year's event, the organizers had decided to elevate the level of competition into a national perspective. (BOT)
