Sto. Tomas ready for Davao Norte athletic meet

THE municipality of Sto. Tomas ni Davao del Norte is all set to host the 2006 Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet on April 4 to 8.

"We expect some 7,000 delegates of athletes, coaches and officials in the sportsfest. We are very excited for the Davraa Meet since it will be our first time to host it," said spokesperson Randy Flor.

Flor said Sto. Tomas Mayor Maximo Estella is hands on in preparing for the hosting.

"He didn't even wait for the budget from DepEd 11. He directed the immediate rehabilitation of the facilities," Flor told sporstwriters recently.

The swimming event, however, will be played in Davao City since the Davraa host has no existing facility for the sport.

Flor said Maximo had met with the regional director of the Philippine National Police to ensure the security of the delegates who will be billeted in the public schools in the area.

The sports event for elementary and secondary athletes will have contingents from defending champion Davao City, Compostela Valley, Davao oriental, Davao del Sur, Digos, Island Garden City of Samal, Panabo, Tagum and Davao del Norte.

The Davraa champions will get to represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa set in Naga City. (MLSA)
