Sepak takraw meet unfolds By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
HOST Davao City teams will have their hands full as the 2006 Araw ng Dabaw Sepak Takraw Open Tournament kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the Rizal Park Wednesday.
The Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) and University of Mindanao (UM) teams are expected to put up a very good fight in the college open category.
Davao's Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa)-bound secondary team will also try to make waves in the college event as part of its preparation in the regional sportsfest set on April 4 to 8 in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.
Davao City Sepak Takraw Association (DCSTA) president Nilda Sebellino earlier said she is confident Davao teams stand a very good chance to rule the meet.
But that remains to be seen as the Ateneo de Zamboanga, Unibersidad de Zamboanga, Western Mindanao State University, Pagadian Capitol College, Lanao, Mindanao State University of Iligan, University of Southern Mindanao, Kidapawan City and Tagum City are also seeing action in the event.
The three-day tournament, presented by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office under sports coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go, also features an elementary sipa division.
Cash prizes and certificates will be up for grabs in the competition organized by the Davao City Sepak Takraw Association.
