Encore for Pops
By Jojie Alcantara
Witerary

A HOT bar (and refuge of laidback partygoers) just closed shop with a going out auction of all its sweet memorabilia of mementos that marked years of popular existence in the city. That bar was simply called Pops, on Ilustre Street.

It wasn't a cause for sadness among regulars, however. During the Araw ng Dabaw, the hangout with the same name resurfaced at Autoshop compound in Bajada, considered to be one of the new havens for frequenters who crave music, food and partying among outgoing, young Dabawenyos. The launch was a success.

Congratulations to the graduates of 2006! Post your graduation experiences and greetings here.

Surprisingly repackaged to the hilt, the new Pops emerges as a new destination for today's generation of young, hip clubbers. It has reinvented itself into a party venue with a serious door policy: smart shoes or else bug off. The new environment also encourages people to dress up fashionably, what with party scenes being witnessed through clear glass from outside.

Bearing a minimalist design, the simple interiors are filled with your usual chairs and tables, with black denim sofas on the side. Bar staff serve cocktails and favorite beer from behind a glowing blue bar, while resident DJs spin house music and danceable tunes.

The old Pops used to be a popular hangout for its dim, eclectic and comfy environment with cool music, very good food and drinks. Now the new party place exudes a different coolness that keeps you up on your toes all night.

One can't help but be on the lookout for the best and worst-dressed of the night. While it is a good place for celebrity sightings and fashionistas, the VIP room glass window upstairs offers a good view of the crowd below too (so mind your cleavages, ladies).

Pops promises to launch monthly parties, bringing popular Manila DJs every month. Its VIP room is open for private parties, complete with bartenders and waiters in a package. Lunch will soon be open with a new menu for clients.

Pops has indeed elevated its metropolitan tastes as a premier venue for slick, party people.
