Illegal 'fruit game', drug deals unveiled
By Ben O. Tesiorna

OTHERS call it innovation, but for gambling financiers they deem it a need to find ways on how to circumvent the law.

Illegal gambling financiers have devised a way to avoid being caught for illegal number games, or so they thought.

Congratulations to the graduates of 2006! Post your graduation experiences and greetings here.

They call it "fruit games." It is played like a slot machine but instead of numbers they replaced it with fruit symbols, which is why the monicker.

Authorities are, however, not about to be duped by these devious illegal gamblers.

Davao City Police Office Director Catalino Cuy said just like any other illegal number games they are also keeping their eye on this fruit games, which are said to be proliferating in the city.

Cuy said they have already confiscated some "fruit game" machines as he appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities and immediately report presence of any illegal gambling activity in their community.

Another form of gambling the police are keeping their eye on is the controversial small town lottery (STL).

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte had expressed his opposition to the project.

Without a permit from the mayor's office, the STL could not operate in this city.

Drug deals

Cuy also revealed they have information about the mode of operation of drug traffickers.

To avoid being caught easily, illegal drug traders are said to be doing their business deals inside moving taxis.

Cuy admitted that he has already been advised of this scheme and assured the public that they are doing something about it.

He said with drug deals done inside taxis it would be more difficult for the police to monitor and arrest the suspects since there are more chances of escape.

Cuy said compared to other cities, Davao is much better when it comes to illegal drug situation, which he attributed to the strong anti-illegal drug campaign of the city and the unrelenting support given of the City Government.
