Businessmen warned against fake inspectors By Barbara Carla R. Quiero
THE City Government of Davao has warned owners of business establishments against fake inspectors.
City Health Officer Josephine Villafuerte said Tuesday she received a complaint from an operator of an entertainment establishment, which was reportedly inspected by a group of "impostors" last week.
The fake inspectors claimed they are City Health Office employees.
While conducting the inspection, the group allegedly had a drinking spree and left without paying their bills.
Villafuerte said she verified the matter with Dr. Lucita Cueto, head of the City Health Office reproduction health and wellness center division.
But Cueto denied she deployed an inspection team to the establishment.
"Staffers from City Health Office were allegedly the ones who inspected. Cueto told me she did not instruct any of her staff for fieldwork or inspection. Then they were also drinking while conducting the inspection," Villafuerte said.
Assistant City Administrator Erwin P. Alparaque said the City Government would conduct an investigation on the matter and verify if the inspectors are just outsiders claming to be City Government workers.
Pending investigation, Alparaque has warned business establishments not to accept inspectors who do not present any memorandum order from Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte or City Administrator Wendel E. Avisado.
"They should ask first for an order before allowing entrance to the business establishments. The names of the inspectors should be stated and also the task to be done in the establishment," Alparaque said.
Meanwhile, Business Bureau Chief Jhopee Agustin said business operators could also ask for the identification cards of the inspectors and call the government office that the inspector claims to be from.
Agustin said since January, the Business Bureau did not conduct any inspection during nighttime.
Alparaque also urged other business establishment operators who have been victims of fake inspectors to file a complaint for proper documentation and action.
He added that the business establishment operator could also call 911 or the police office if the inspectors are not identified with the City Government or any government agency.
If the impostor inspectors turn out to be City Government employees who are doing the task of other government office, Alparaque said, they would be charged administratively and criminally by the city.
