Fertilizer firm operating without permit, padlocked
DAVAO City's Business Bureau on Monday padlocked a fertilizer firm that had been operating despite a cease and desist order.
Business Bureau Chief Jhopee Agustin said the Philippine Planters Fertilizers Corporation continued its illegal operation amid a stoppage order issued in February due to the absence of a business permit.
Philippine Planters Fertilizers Corporation is a distributor of fertilizer located along old airport road in Sasa.
Agustin said the firm could not be granted a business permit since it still has a tax liability of P10 million with the City Government.
"I received an information that they were still operating sometime last week. They seem to be using the back portion of the warehouse. They were still operating despite the cease and desist order. So I had it padlocked," Agustin said.
The fertilizer firm could only resume its operations the moment they are able to settle their tax liability with the City Government.
Agustin added that firm claimed they started operations in the city only in January this year.
"But we received reports that they were using three different names prior to this year," he said.
Meanwhile, City Treasurer's Office examiner Jesus M. Gentallan said the firm does not have business permit since it started operating in 2003 and is not paying its local business taxes.
A letter with a tax order of payment was already sent by the treasurer's office to the company last March 7 demanding payment of P1,753,871.98 for tax dues from 2003 to 2006. (BRQ)
