Cagayan fails to show up in match v. Pryce
CAGAYAN DE ORO -- Cagayan de Oro didn't show up in its scheduled match against Pryce Pharma-Misamis Oriental at the Xavier University in this city Tuesday as it decided to forego its two remaining games in the ongoing ML Kwarta Padala Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) First Conference.
Cagayan de Oro team manager Cancio Guibone, in a letter addressed to MVBA Commissioner for Mindanao Willy Generalao, cited financial problems that prompted their decision to forego their last two matches in the league backed by ML Kwarta Padala, Cokaliong Shipping Lines, Nature's Spring Drinking Water, Molten, Panasonic and Sulpicio Lines.
Cagayan de Oro's last scheduled game was set on April 20 against Mindanao Division leader Iligan City of Mayor Lawrence Cruz at the MSU-IIT Gym.
Pryce Pharma thus walked on to its third straight victory and its fourth overall in eight outings in a tie with Montana-Davao.
But in the tiebreak, Pryce Pharma-MisOr got a higher quotient to claim the No. 3 spot in lieu of its seven-point victory, 82-75, over the Davao Jewelers last March 11. Montana-Davao defeated Pryce Pharma only by four points, 86-82, last March 26 at the Almendras Gym in Davao City.
MVBA Chairman Governor Oscar Moreno announced that tickets sold for Sunday's aborted game will be honored at Pryce Pharma's first home game of the MVBA Mindanao Division semifinals at a date to be announced later.
Likewise, the game between the Toyota-Iloilo Warriors and the West Negros College Mustangs at the University of San Agustin Gym in Iloilo City was reset to a later date.
MVBA action resumes April 17 with the Warriors battling host Mantawi Traders, 5:30 p.m. at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
