MDCC cagers to compete in Cebu
THE Metro Davao Christian Church (MDCC) is all set to compete in the men's basketball tournament of the Visayas-Mindanao Jubilee Sportsfest on April 15 in Cebu City.
The Davao cagers, coached by Eric Caparas, have been preparing for the one-day league where teams from Cagayan de Oro, Cebu and Negros are also entered.
"I think Cebu would be the team to beat. I've heard they are fielding younger players," Caparas said.
But he said the Davao squad would0 be no pushover after undergoing weekly practices and tune-up matches the past month to strengthen its offense and defense departments.
"The players are now bonded. They are expected to play as one united team," the playing-coach added. MDCC will parade its prolific shooters: Abalayan brothers Eric, Alvin and Christopher along with the Malnegro brothers Nimrod and John.
Formidable slotmen Ivan Policarpio and Benjamin Saavedra, Jomarie Mercado and Jojo Mordeno will also beef up the team.
Eric and Alvin will also see action in the table tennis event along with veterans Dr. Ferdie Oreta, businessmen Carlos Gabucan, Sr. and Bobby Ocon. John and Mercado will also strut their stuff in badminton along with siblings Carlos "Jun-Jun" and Charlene Gabucan. (MLSA)
