Militant group denounces anti-left streamers

MILITANT group Bayan Muna admitted they were offended by the streamers found at the entrance of Task Force Davao headquarters that say "Masa Pagmata, Unsang Organisasyon ang Giubanan Mo" and "Pagmata Kamo Igsuon Ko."

Also emblazoned on the streamers were the names of legitimate progressive organizations and political leaders.

Jeppie Ramada, Bayan Muna regional coordinator, said task force chief Eduardo Del Rosario is "anxious of the unceasing criticism against Task Force Davao, the military, and the Arroyo government and apparently can only be comforted by putting up these ridiculous and slanderous materials."

"The posted materials violate our constitutionally guaranteed rights and freedoms. Specifically, the acts violated Section 4 of the Bill of Rights and Carhrihl's Part 3, Article 2, Section 11, which provides that any individual or group has the right not to be punished or be held accountable in the exercise of their right to freedom of thought and expression, freedom of conscience, political and religious belief and practices," Ramada said.

"Del Rosario cannot justify the abusive militarization and paramilitary recruitment in Paquibato and elsewhere in Southern Mindanao, and cannot answer to the string of human rights violations of the AFP. He resorts to his favorite method: red scare propaganda and red labeling," he added.

Ramada said del Rosario's act is "perilous as it is tantamount to giving the military license to harass us, arrest us without warrants, file charges against us, or worse, have us abducted or killed."

"What else can he do once the Anti-Terrorism law is enacted? Have our families and our face plastered all over the streets with 'Wanted: terrorist' labels?" Ramada asked.

Militant members picketed in front of the task force headquarters last week criticizing the military for its alleged role in the Pangyan massacre. (BOT/ With press release)
