Horse fighting in Davao Sur
HORSE fighting will still be one of the exciting events in the first Manobila (Manobo-Bilaan) Festival on April 25-27 at the municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao del Sur.
"Horse fighting is one of the ethnic tribal games," said organizer Marlon Gayog of the Manobo Bilaan Cultural Association Inc.
The three-day event is supported by JAS Mayor Zander Khan a.k.a. Alexander Wangkay, Governor Benjamin Joseph Bautista Jr., Representative Claude Bautista and National Commission in Indigenous People provincial officer Ed Masiwel.
Dagger, a horse owned by Mayor Zander Khan is one of the early favorites.
"We cannot remove horse fighting because is part of our culture and we want to preserve it," Gayog said.
The other events are the Manobila Amateur Boxing at the Plaza, banca paddle race at Caburan Beach, "Bunot sa Lubi" coconut piling contest, "Pinaka Dako ug Pinaka Daghang Isda" fish catching contest, "Indak-Indak sa Dalan" street dancing, trade fair, search for Biya ng Manobila, Zander Khan Sing-A-Like and videoke challenge.
Senator Jamby Madrigal, great granddaughter of the late JAS mayor Judge Jose Abad Santos, and Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao have been both invited as guests of honor.
Also expected are Provincial Tourism Officer Lovely Nuere, Municipal Tourism Council president Dr. Allan Paciones and Municipal Tourism Officer Ada Lopez.
