A TOP rebel leader was confirmed dead in an encounter with military troops in Maco, Compostela Valley last April 24.

Luna said six more rebels were also killed and buried by their comrades somewhere in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

The April 24 encounter at Sitio Mararag, Barangay Panamin also resulted in the death of two members of Civilian Armed Forces Geographic Unit (Cafgu) identified as Carlo Salibay and Mar Alonzo.

Combined elements from the Tagbaros and Malamudao detachments led by Private First Class Romy Ugarill of the Army's 72nd Infantry Battalion were conducting combat operations when they encountered 30 NPA members.

A firefight ensued for about 30 minutes before the enemy withdrew toward different directions. (BOT/With reports from Peng Aliño)
