Militant leader laughs off guv's libel suit
By Barbara Carla R. Quiero

A MILITANT leader laughs off the plan of North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol to sue groups dragging his name into the Sunday grenade attack on the Anakpawis office in Kidapawan City that injured two members.

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Southern Mindanao Region secretary general Ariel Casilao was reacting to Piñol's statement that he will file libel charges against militant groups like Karapatan.

"We are facing a rebellion case now, honestly we just laugh about it. This statement of Governor Piñol is funny and ridiculous because we expected him, as governor of the province, to denounce and condemn the attack. What happens now is that he's going to file a libel case. His reaction is far out," Casilao said in a press conference Friday.

Piñol earlier denied any involvement in the attack and told groups dragging his name to prepare proof that could pin him down.

Casilao said he would like to reserve his defense for the meantime on the matter.

According to Casilao, they only challenged the governor because they haven't heard any statement from him ordering an impartial investigation on the incident.

"We have not heard him condemning the attack. Is that the attitude of a governor whose constituents were killed? It happened right at his, own backyard. It is in his area of responsibility and yet we haven't heard from him," Casilao said.

He added, "If he felt that his reputation was questioned and criticized, well honestly his reputation since years time that passed is already damage because of his anti-people policies implemented in Kidapawan," Casilao added.

"The libel case is only a tool to scare us from talking against the governor," Casilao said.
