Davao booters suffer defeat
THE onset of heavy rains and strong winds brought about by Typhoon Caloy didn't go well with Davao City's bid for a finals berth in the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) 1st National U-17 Ladies Championship in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Friday.
The Dabawenyas succumbed to a 1-4 loss to Iloilo in their semis encounter, thus, bidding their title hopes goodbye in the PFF-organized meet.
Erika Delima, who hit a goal in the 60th minute, was Davao's lone scorer.
Coach Danny Boy Fernandez, in a text message to Davao Football Association (DFA) official Erwin Protacio, only managed to say: "Malakas ang ulan dito (We've got heavy rains here)."
The Davao squad, backed up by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office, entered the semis round after topping Group A with two wins and one draw in the eliminations.
It was also bannered by Herlyn Mae Salmon, Jude Tajo, Cherry Vilchez, July Bunac, Ann Myles Zarasate, Jasmine Jilian Matalam, Danille Samantha Santiago, Maan Cadayona, Rubilyn Bangoy, Erika Jean Delima, June May Bunac, Mary Jane Zamora, Fatima Cawe, Alyssa Monyeen Reyes, Raylynne Tale and Jean Roxanne Gonzales.
