Davraa cops gold
DAVAO City player Gil Ablanque saved the day for Team Davraa by clinching the coveted gold medal in elementary boys table tennis singles championship of the 2006 Palarong Pambansa in Naga City Friday.
Ablanque inflicted a 4-1 demolition against his opponent from the National Capitol Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) in their finals.
He earlier led the bronze win of the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) in the boys' team event.
Supporting him were Reymark Salutillo, Kenneth Tajorre and Judell Tabsing.
The rest of the Davraa table paddlers, however, will be coming home empty-handed.
Former Metro Davao Table Tenis Association (Medatta) president Friendee Nu¤ez, who was acting coach to the elementary boys team, said: "Davraa was pinning its hopes in the doubles event but the tournament manager scrapped it.
The coaches' complaints were not heard. Thus, only our elementary boys team won medals."
Davao City's top table paddlers Jacqueline Caragao, an RP junior player, and Mirabel Roferos were stripped off their medal chances with the scrapping of the doubles event. (MLSA)
