Heavy equipment operators set to undergo trade test

THE Construction Manpower Development Foundation (CMDF) will conduct trade test for heavy equipment operators on May 17 at the Lapanday Skills Training Center (LSTC) in Mandug, Davao City to ensure that these people are highly prepared and educated in terms of operating heavy equipments.

The CMDF is an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The activity will be undertaken in cooperation with the LTSC, an accredited assessment center of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).

The trade test leads to the certification of operators once they successfully pass both the written and actual examinations.

The certification program is aimed at attesting the level of skills of workers in the construction industry.

The certification of heavy equipment operators is one of the provisions cited in Department Order 13, which tackles provisions concerning the Guidelines Governing Safety and Health in Construction, of the Department of Labor and Employment.

Those who would like to become certified heavy equipment operators should have at least three years of work experience, with a professional driver's license, and are physically and mentally fit.

An assessment fee will be charged per participant to cover expenses on materials, consumables, honorarium for assessors, and administrative cost.

Aside from the May 17 schedule, two other dates have also been set for the same activity. These will be on August 16 and November 15.

For inquiries, interested participants may visit the CMDF office at 4/F Mintrade Bldg., Monteverde corner Sales Streets, Davao City. They may also contact Engineer Bryant Arante at telephone number (082) 224-0511 local 421. Deadline for the confirmation of participants should be one week before the assessment schedules.
