Militant leader undaunted by 'rehashed' raps
By Ben O. Tesiorna

BAYAN Muna Representative Joel Virador is undaunted by the new charges filed against them by the government for allegedly being members of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

Virador said the charges are rehashed and manufactured and nothing but part of the grand political persecution of the Arroyo administration against him and the rest of the Batasan 5.

"We will face these charges. This is not new. This is still the manufactured case against us," he said.

He said they also have no plans of again seeking refuge at the Batasan Pambansa if ever.

Virador said the only reason that they sought protective custody was to assert to the executive department that due process ought to be respected at all times.

"It is important that the public is aware that the reason for protective custody is to make known to the executive department that due process must be respected," Virador said.

House Majority Leader Prospero Nograles earlier said the House is not keen on giving protective custody again to the Batasan 5 once new charges are filed against them.

The Batasan 5 stayed for 70 days inside the complex.

The filing of new information against them was prompted by Judge Jenny Lind Aldecoa-Delorino's denial of a justice department's motion that they be included in a rebellion case already filed against Anak Pawis Representative Crispin Beltran and First Lieutenant Lawrence San Juan.

Beltran and San Juan were being accused of conspiring to overthrow President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on February 24.

Delorino, in her ruling, pointed that the justice department should have filed new information instead of amending the case against Beltran and San Juan.

The Department of Justice lodged before the Makati Regional Trial Court Friday new rebellion charges against Representatives Satur Ocampo, Rafael Mariano, Teodoro Casiño, Liza Maza, and Joel Virador.

Communist leaders Jose Ma. Sison and Luis Jalandoni, together with Honasan, were also charged before the Makati court.
