City Council revamp looms

A REORGANIZATION is again in the offing at the City Council of Davao. "A revamp is possible. Because of the amendments in the rules of the City Council, there will be reorganization," Vice Mayor Luis C. Bonguyan said in an interview Tuesday.

He said the city council has started to amend the rules a month ago.

Bonguyan, however, said the reorganization will only take place after the city council is done with the amendments.

He said the City Council will hold a special session within the month to do this.

Among the amendments, he said, is changing council committee membership from seven to five and for the majority floor leader to handle the committee on rules, privileges, laws and ordinances.

At present, City Councilor Emmanuel D. Galicia, current majority floor leader, chairs the housing committee while City Councilor Jesus D. Zozobrado, assistant floor majority floor leader, chairs the committee on rules, privileges, laws and ordinances.

When asked who would possibly replace Galicia, Bonguyan mentioned Councilors Leo Avila and Arnulfo Cabling as possible replacement.

He added that committee membership will also be chosen by the committee chair.

"Mas maayo kung kasundo nimo imong mga kauban sa committee (Its's better if the chair works harmoniously with his members)," Bonguyan said.

Bonguyan said he also wants members of the minority group to handle their own committees. (BRQ)
