Isla Fiesta!
By Jojie Alcantara

WORLD famous brand Havaianas that brought us the popular flipflops thanked its valued and increasing clientele by launching a party at Marco Polo Davao.

Drawing inspiration from Fashion Week New York where the W Hotels created a chic Havaianas Lounge, the Marco Polo turned its Poolside into a tropical festivity for the flipflop that caters to the sensitive soles (because it's 100% rubber and gentle on your feet!). Both Marco Polo Davao and Havaianas Southern and Western Mindanao launched the summer party called Isla Fiesta, with eight urprises prepared for the night, to celebrate eight months since Havaianas was formally launched in Davao.

First, specially made Havaianas gift tokens were given away to the first 20 Isla Fiesta guests, and these were flipflop bags with a notepad and mini slipper keychain. Secondly, Manila's hip fashion designer Kate Torralba sold her merchandise at special Davao price only for that evening.

Third, a portion of the ticket sales went to the JUST FOR KIDS Foundation, specifically to the Kids with Cancer in Davao Medical Center and the Therapy Center for Disabled Children in Tugbok. An information booth was set up for guests who wanted to know more about the foundation, with Foundation head Ms. Vida Konst present during the event.

Fourth, Havaianas Philippines Owner Anne Gonzales and celebrity host JM Rodriguez raffled off two pairs of a "Designer One of a Kind Embellished Havaianas" with matching bag for the women and Havaianas Cartunistas and Filipinas for the men.

Fifth, JM Rodriguez introduced the Isla Fiesta Summer Fashion Show, highlighting the famous brand and designer Kate Torralba's Special Summer Collection.

After the show, Havaianas Davao owners Marga Montemayor and Tisha Ang raffled off more special prizes as the 6th treat. Bea Bautista, George Garcia and Otoy Mercado were the lucky raffle winners.

Boosting an already hyped atmosphere of island rhythm is the international DJ once dubbed as the youngest and ONLY Filipino member of the world-renowned Ministry of Sound, DJ Jessie Suaco. This was the 7th surprise.

And for the final treat, celebrity guests Bernard Palanca and Meryl Soriano awarded the Special 2006 Gold and Sliver Havaianas to the Hombre y Mujer de la Noche en la Isla Fiesta ("Man and Woman of the Night"), Francis Diano and Isabel Rijk. Take note, only 30 pairs of these flipflops were sent to the Philippines (they are NOT for sale).

For the whole evening, guests could shop Havaianas & Kate Torralba items as they enjoyed a "buy-one, take-one" treat on all drinks and pica-pica. Event's official photographer Rhonson Ng shares with us some scenes.
