Chessfest up
PREPARATIONS shift to high gear for the Inter-Barangay Kiddies Chess Tournament at the Gaisano Mall of Davao on June 1 and 2.
Chief arbiter Sammy Yu, who guested at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday, said the meet is open for 12 years old and below players residing in first district.
"A barangay may field as many players as it can. This will be a very good exposure for the kids," he said in the vernacular.
Yu said the tournament may even pave the way for discovering promising talents who can become the next Fide Master Oliver Dimakiling -- a Dabawenyo, who rose to the spotlight from grassroots age-group tournaments, now seeing action in the World Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy.
Prizes in kind will be given away to the winners of the chessfest presented by City Councilor Angela Librado and the City Mayor's Office. (MLSA)
