2 church workers killed in Agusan rebel attack By Ben O. Tesiorna
TWO church workers were killed while their companion was wounded when armed men believed to be New People's Army (NPA) rebels attacked an isolated village in Agusan del Sur Friday.
Fatalities were identified as Danilo Bisak, 34 years old, married, and Lito Vigonte, 34. Wounded was 18-year-old Boying Libradilla. All were residents of Barangay San Roque in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
Major General Cardozo Luna of the Army's 4th Infantry Division said the attack was perpetrated by the NPA Front Committee 8 of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Command under Lorna Gomez alias Kumander Danah.
The incident happened on May 26 at around 2:30 a.m. while the villagers were asleep.
Luna said all of the victims were relatives of Fr. Arnel Globode of the Carmelite and were actively involved in community activities organized by the military.
He said the rebels were opposing any activities spearheaded by the military in the area.
Luna condemned the attack even as authorities launched hot pursuit operation against the attackers. (With reports from Peng Aliño)
