Big hearts donate mini fire trucks
JOY was written all over the faces of barangay captains Jesse Mar Culaste and Jesus Sabio of Dumoy and Catalunan Grande, respectively as they received mini-fire trucks and firefighting equipment to boost the Barangay Penetrators project of House Majority Floor Leader Prospero Nograles.
Culaste and Sabio drove the Mini-Firetruck with a leaping hearts back to their respective barangays after the formal turnover ceremony held at the Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Office along Monteverde street last May 26. The event was witnessed by no less than the Department of Interior and Local Government Region 11 Director Rodolfo Razul.
Nograles said the donation is the seventh and eight fire trucks he delivered to the barangays since the project is implemented with hopes that each barangay in Davao's Ist District will have at least one Mini-Firetruck to enable the barangay leaders to effectively protect their houses.
The first five minutes of fire is the most critical period Nograles said hence barangay leaders should see to it that the fire truck, firefighting equipment, and most of all the crew are always ready for service otherwise the purpose and efforts in sourcing out funds for the acquisition of the Mini-Firetruck would turn to naught Nograles said.
Nograles reminded barangay captains to maintain the fire truck in tip-top condition, saying the money is not from government funds but a donation from his friends and family and facilitated by his son lawyer Karlo Nograles.
"Sa panahon ng tag init gamitin nyo sa paghatid ng tubig sa inyong Barangay at sa pagdilig ng mga tanim, hindi langito para sa sunog" Nograles told the Barangay Captains.
Mini fire trucks are designed for the areas with small alleys Nograles said. "Maraming residential area na sobrang sikip ang daan kaya hindi makapasok ang malalaking fire truck kong may sunog, dito maging effective ang Barangay Penetrators Nograles added.
While some criticize the fire truck because of its size, Nograles said some big cities in Metro Manila wanted to imitate the project in their place.
Neil Kwantiu of the Bureau of Fire Protection has this to say: "Remember that no fire started big. Even a glass of water can put it off when attended on its early stage".
With the mini-fire trucks in the barangays, residents can sleep comfortably assured of having protection of their property from fire 24 hours a day, Nograles said.
