Davao death squad hit list more fearful than rebels’
By Ben O. Tesiorna

HOUSE Majority Leader Prospero Nograles is more fearful of being in the hit list of the Davao Death Squad (DDS) than being in the order of battle of the New People's Army (NPA).

Nograles made the reaction after the NPA hit list was made public and the names of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and 15 other public officials including him were in it.

The NPA hit list was reportedly sent by the rebel group to the media Tuesday.

"Hit list? I'm in good company. That is okay, but not in hit list of Davao Death Squad," Nograles said in a text message to Sun.Star Davao.

The lawmaker said the possibility of being ambushed and even death "is part of the hazards of the trade of a congressman."

The list also included secretaries Raul Gonzales, Ignacio Bunye, Michael Defensor, Norberto Gonzales, Eduardo Ermita, Ronaldo Puno, and Hermogenes Ebdane.

House Speaker de Venecia was also listed along with Cagayan de Oro City Representative Constantino Jaraula and Camarines Sur Representative Luis Villafuerte.

Opposition congresswoman Imee Marcos is also targeted.

The other officials in the list are Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos, and Ben Evardone, spokesman Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines.

The NPA said the President and the other officials would be liquidated for pushing Charter change and not pressing issues facing the nation.

The letter that has a return address of RPC 2286 Solid House Building, Pasong Tamong Extension, Makati City and posted at the Manila Central Post Office on May 31 was sent the same day to Malacañang.
