Environment dep't to file raps v. Paquibato loggers

DENR Regional Director Ricardo L. Calderon said they will file a case against Noli Solatorio and Adonis Blanco, who were caught transporting illegally logged trees in Barangay Mapula, Paquibato District.

DENR-City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) team and City Councilor Leonardo Avila caught Solatorio and Blanco during an ocular inspection in the area.

Solatorio was seen driving a jeepney carrying a 1,500 board feet Lawaan while Adonis was caught driving his own jeepney carrying 2,000 boardfeet Dao.

Lawaan and Dao are both varieties of hardwood that are banned.

The vehicles of the two suspects were impounded and turned over to Paquibato proper Barangay Captain Alexander Cardiene for temporary custody.

Amando C. Ceniza of the DENR-Cenro said two barangay council members of Barangay Mapula are also said to be working with Solatorio and Blanco, helping them to transport said hot logs to be sold to Panabo City.

Calderon said the two have violated the Forestry Code, which prompts them to file a criminal case against them.

Ceniza, meanwhile, said they will conduct administrative proceedings on Tuesday and will file a case against the two barangay council members on Wednesday at the Regional Trial Court, along with Solatorio and Calderon.

Calderon said DENR has intensified its monitoring on the logging activity in Paquibato area.

"We have deployed 5 forest rangers in the area to constantly monitor the area and there is also a regular patrol," Calderon said.

He added that the DENR have also coordinated with the City Government to further strengthen the campaign against illegal logging in the city. (BRQ)
