Kabasan Festival
BABAK district in the Island Garden City of Samal sealed summer with high spirits as they celebrated Araw ng Babak 2006 for nine consecutive days on May 20 to 28.
Kabasan sa Babak, a festival by itself a la Mardi Gras, became the opening salvo for the celebrations.
Street dancing, search for the star of the sea, and sama-inspired fashion show enchanted the crowd numbering more than a thousand.
Market vendors had their showcase of farm products at the Taboan sa Tianggehan while youngsters had a dance showdown (Hataw-Sayaw) on the third day.
Hiyas ng Babak took center stage during the impressive Rampahan sa Kalye cum sagala. Simultaneous events marked the Araw ng Babak on May 28. A Bailehan was held in ACCFA and there was disco at the gym.
Party people filled the streets in front of Gimmix as they reveled in the music of Transpose Band and Music Authority Band. It was just phenomenal!
All events during the nine-day celebration were free of charge. Kudos to all those who extended unrelenting support to make Araw ng Babak 2006 a success. (Noel Daquiaog)
