Driver sued for rape of girlfriend

THE City Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged a trisikad driver on accusation of raping his 15-year-old girlfriend in Bucana, Davao City last year.

Prosecutor I Trinidad dela Torre-Cardona recommended the filing of rape charges against Danny (surname withheld to protect the identity of the girl), a resident of Barangay 76-A, Bucana, this city based on the complaint of one Julie (not true name), a student.

In her sworn statement, Julie said she was walking home from school with a female friend named Josephine at around 6:30 p.m. of November 16 when Danny offered to bring them home in his trisikad.

But instead of bringing both of them home as he offered, Danny arranged for a male fried to drive his trisikad to take Josephine home saying he has to talk with Julie alone.

Seeing nothing wrong with his request, Julie agreed to go with Danny who brought her to the seawall in Bucana where they settled down to talk.

Well into their conversation, Julie said, Danny stood up and approached a group a few meters away from them.

Julie said she saw one of the men in the group, whom she identified as Danny's friend, hand a medicine bottle to Danny.

Danny then passed the bottle to another member of the group who poured its content on a handkerchief.

Danny returned, and instead of resuming their conversation, covered her face with a handkerchief causing her to lose consciousness.

The girl awoke the following day still feeling dizzy.

She said Danny even helped her to a nearby house and gave her some food.

She was only able to go home at around 7 p.m. of that day and told her mother about what happened.

Julie's mother brought her to the hospital for a medical examination where it was learned that she was positively abused, which prompted her to file the case.

The prosecution did not recommend any bail for the temporary liberty of Danny who remains at large. (JGRS)
