Davao's Simon hopes for more playing time
FORMER Davao City collegiate standout Peter June Simon is hoping that he will be given more playing time when the Purefoods Chunkee Giants sees action in the 2006 Gran Matador Brandy PBA Philippine Cup semi-finals.
Simon, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao Wednesday, said: "Rule player ko diri sa team. Ready ko pirmi kung naa opportunity makadula (I'm a rule player in the team. I'm always ready when there is an opportunity for me to play)."
Simon said they expect a semis showdown with the Alaska Aces as it leads, 2-1, in their best-of-five quarter-finals against the Coca-Cola Tigers.
"Sa tan-aw namo Alaska gyud among makadula sa semis kay isa nalang ka daug kulang nila. Pero ready mi maski kinsa man ang among makalaban (We might face Alaska in the semis because it is just a win away. But we are ready to face any team)" said Simon who carried the University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats to back-to-back championships in the Gaisano Cup where he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) two to three times.
He said they've been holding practices regularly in preparation for the semis.
The Ryan Gregorio-coached Chunkee Giants are also bannered by James Yap, Kerby Raymundo, Eugene Tejada, Reynaldo Evangelista, Zandro Limpot, Roger Yap, Ernesto Billones, Jondan Salvador, Marc Jean Pingris Forward, Noy Castillo, Paul Anthony Artadi and Richard Yee.
