2 Pentagon men slain in gun battle

TWO alleged Pentagon kidnap for ransom group members, who are also accused of cattle-rustling, were killed in an encounter against the joint forces of civilian volunteer organization (CVO)/Civilian Auxiliary Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) and elements of the 40th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army Thursday morning in Maguindano.

Authorities identified the dead as Datu Niel Calis and his kin Abdula. The military claims both were active Pentagon members. Their remains were brought to Maguindanao.

At least 20 armed Pentagon members under Kumander Pakil Ayuman were spotted in barangay Kilangan Pagalungan in Maguindanao by residents in the area who in turn tipped off the military.

The 40th IB and CVO/Cafgu responded at once leading to the encounter that transpired at past 7 a.m.

The encounter lasted 45 minutes with the Pentagon group fleeing towards Liguasan Marsh.

M16 and M14 rifles with live bullets were seized from the battleground.

CVO member Norton Putilon was wounded but has already been declared out of danger by attending physicians.

The military and CVO/Cafgu elements are still holding operations to pin down the rest of the Pentagon members in the area. (GOT/GF)
