Village chief, 3 men killed in van crash

A THREE-term barangay captain and three others were killed while five others were injured in a smash-up between a Toyota lite ace and a truck at barangay Mipangi in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley (Comval) Province at 2 a.m. Friday.

Dead on the spot were as Roland Berioso, 55, of Centennial Bagongon in Compostela town, ComVal, and Raymundo Castillo, 65, barangay captain of Ngan also in Ngan, Compostela.

Castillo, brother of Compostela Mayor Reynaldo Castillo, was serving his third and last term.

Dead on arrival at the Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City were Nestor Baliguat, 51, of Purok 5, Poblacion Compostela, and Pelipe Pepito, 65, a resident of Centennial Bagongon.

Injured were Mary and Joan Tanotan, Catherine Tagalog, Edwin Diamante and another victim who remains unidentified as of Friday.

The Toyota Lite Ace with plate number LMC 826 was heading towards Tagum City when it hit the truck, which was heading the other way, in Mipangi.

The victims were on their way home from Centennial where they joined the fiesta celebration.

One unit of Nokia cellphone, personal belongings, tools, car stereo and a OR/CR registered under the name of Rolando Berioso were recovered at the scene. (GT)
