Oliver to play chess
A CHESS event dubbed "A Chess Day with IM Oliver Dimakiling" will be held Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at the 3rd level of Gaisano Mall.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto said the activity is a chess event for kids.
A side event, a blitz tournament with Dimakiling, will also be conducted.
The tournament offers P2,000 to the champion, while the second and third placers will get P1,000 and P500, respectively.
The fourth to fifth placers will receive P250 each.
"There will also be category awards for kiddies, juniors, executive/professional, employee and senior players. The category awardees will each pocket P200," Infiesto said.
Registration is P50.
Dimakiling, who is now Manila-based, is in Davao City to spend quality time with his family after his successful debut in the 2006 World Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy recently.
He also competed in the San Marino Open and took home the crowns in the just concluded POC Olympic Festival chess tournament and Ozamis National Open Chess Tournament. (MLSA)
