Davao businessmen urged to attend SME trainings By Barbara Carla R. Quiero
THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are geared towards the development of small and medium enterprises in Davao City with the staging of Small and Medium (SME) Week Celebration on July 17 to 21.
Mary Ann Hao of the DTI said there are 12 trainings to be conducted during the weeklong celebration.
Hao said the trainings will give businessmen and would-be businessmen updated knowledge on running a small and medium enterprise.
"It's really important for SME businessmen to be updated on the latest SMEs information," Hao said.
Hao urged interested individuals to contact DTI or the DCCCII to be enlisted as one of the participants.
"Most of the registration fees are less than P500 except for one, but the bottom line is that this will give information on SMEs," she said.
The training includes basic course on community and self managed enterprise, which covers topics on identifying and planning for livelihood projects available in the community. Participants will learn how to effectively manage and sustain the community and self-managed enterprises.
There will also be a basic course training on preparing a business plan. Participants will be involved in laying out action plan activities most entrepreneur did in putting up his business.
A training on the basic course on intellectual property rights for SMEs will also be conducted. Participants will know the legal basis and implications on intellectual property rights.
The pool of resource speakers will be coming from the DTI, Security and Exchange Commission, Business Bureau and others.
SME week 2006 over-all committee chair Sofronio Jucutan said that during the weeklong celebration, the most outstanding SME in the city will be awarded.
"They will be recognized as they have contributed much in creating new products and employing individuals," Jucutan said.
Hao said small enterprises have a starting capital of P3-50 million while medium enterprises have a starting capital of P50-100 million.
