Real estate, agri-products to boost sales at Date '06
REAL estate and agricultural products are two major drawers of booked sales during the forthcoming Davao Trade Exhibit (Date) as organizers aim for 25 percent more of their sales this year.
Herma Herrera of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) and Date 2006 officer, said they want to surpass the figure, which they generated last year, of P82 million in sales as against the P55 million generated in 2004. Real property was last year's bestseller.
"We expect real property still to come out this year as big contributor of the sales in the exhibit as well as in agri-products," she said.
About 200 exhibitors with 5,000 traders and buyers are expected to join Date 2006 that will be held for the first time at the convention center of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) from September 15 to 17 in Davao City.
Herrera said the exhibitors are mostly small and medium entrepreneurs in Mindanao with more than two dozens of them coming from Manila and Cebu.
She said with this year's theme "Davao Goes Global," Date continues to move forward as businesses compete in the global market place.
She said local branding and resources will be broadly showcased and exposed to markets all over the country and to major regional players in the BIMP-Eaga region.
Herrera also said that negotiations are underway for the participation of the foreign trade attaches of the US, Britain, Canada, Sweden, and Taiwan.
During the Date 2005, the US foreign trade attaché was able to showcase 14 US based companies. Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan already signified to support Date 2006 of passing on the information to their respective business community to attend and visit the exhibition.
She said there is a need to partner with the Philippine businesses because Malaysia for instance is widely promoting specific industries like the virgin coconut oil.
As far as BIMP-Eaga is concern Date will conduct business matching, which is also a regular activity during the trade exhibit.
A forum on fund-sourcing will be held so the SMEs could have new inputs and guide in accessing of funds.
Herrera said while the Department of Agriculture is a regular participant of Date, this time they will come up with innovations, as showcasing of products will be done by the different regions in Mindanao.
The Department of Science and Technology will also participate for the first time where they will showcase locally initiated inventions in the region.
Herrera also said that products on display are those within the eight priority cluster industries namely, banana, coconut, mango, wood, seaweed, ICT, mining and eco-tourism.
