Suspect in rape of girl, 5, sued
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

CHARGES have been filed against a man accused of sexually molesting a five-year-old girl in front of the latter's younger brother in Bankerohan, Davao City, last week.

Prosecutor Victoriano M. Bello Jr. recommended the filing of rape through sexual assault charges against Romeo Capillanos alias Toto, of legal age, and resident of Madapo Hills.

Leah (real name withheld for being a minor) and neighbor of the respondent, filed the complaint.

Leah executed an affidavit saying that the incident happened at around 6 p.m. on July 4 while she and her younger brother were playing outside their grandmother's house in Bankerohan.

Leah claimed that Capillanos, who was sitting on a hammock just a few meters away from her, called her attention and allegedly requested her to come closer.

Leah said she approached Capillanos who carried her and let her sit on his lap.

The girl added that Capillanos put his hands inside her shorts and inserted his finger in her organ.

Leah's younger brother witnessed the incident, prompting Capillanos to let go of Leah.

Leah and her brother then went inside their house and told the incident to their grandmother. However, the latter just ignored Leah's revelation and did not believe her.

The following day, Leah's aunt, Mylene, visited Leah in her grandmother's house. This gave Leah a chance to tell Mylene about the incident.

Mylene, together with Leah and the latter's brother then sought assistance from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Capillanos was later arrested in his house. A bail of P200,000 was set for his temporary liberty. He is now locked up at the CIDG detention cell.
