Monsoon waves destroy houses

MONSOON waves hit coastal areas in Davao City, destroying houses in three coastal barangays since Monday.

Office of Civil Defense regional director Carmelito Lupo said the affected coastal areas are barangays 21-C and 76-A in downtown area and Daliao in Toril.

Two houses were washed away while 10 more were partially damaged.

A teenager reportedly drowned as well while swimming at a beach resort despite the big waves.

The damage on houses is expected to rise as the monsoon season (bahagat) is expected to bring in more giant waves.

Residents along these coastal areas were already ordered to evacuate to safer grounds by authorities. (BOT)
