Davao jins capture 9 golds, 5 silvers

THE Davao City contingent bagged a total of nine gold medals, five silvers and six bonzes in the just-concluded 8th Mindanao Open Taekwondo Championships and 2nd T'nalak Festival Taekwondo Competition at the South Cotbato Gym and Cultural Center in Koronadal City.

The Davao Taekwondo Center of coach Jun-Jun Te copped five golds, two silvers and three bronzes while the Giovanni delos Santos-coached Davao Taekwondo Extreme added four golds, three silvers and three bronzes.

The 15-member Davao City team took the most disciplined and organized team award with DTE jin Jason Anthony Guimary hailed as best player in the grade school boys novice event.

Davao won golds courtesy of DTE's Bobby Rulida in senior men's division, Marvin Te in junior men's, Rey Titus Nagar and Roxy Palermo in grade school boys and Rejeen Feb Nagar in grade school girls.

DTE's Mary Celestial Aquino got a gold in women's mid-junior while Palarong Pambansa silver medallist Thea Dannica Albarracin got a gold in the grade school girls event.

Teammates Guimary and Ernie Paul Cequiña clinched golds in grade school boys category.

The silver medalists were Lara Gail Nagal, Rolly Pentecostes, Jerry Joseph Valderama, Niña Monique Albarracin and Dan Lester Albarracin.

Jason Ngo, Natalie Maramba, Harold Francis Nuval, Sheena Ruth Wong, Rupert dela Torre and Alnie Nicole Cequi¤a salvaged bronzes.

The Davao jins shift their focus on the 2006 Regional Inter-School Taekwondo Championships on Sunday at the SM City entertainment plaza. (MLSA)
