Both teams are entered in the college category of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP)-sanctioned cagefest.

The curtain raiser pits Davao Central College against the Holy Child School of Davao in the junior division.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch' Ramirez is the guest speaker in the grand opening rites. It will also feature Viva Hot Babe Maui Taylor to spice up the occasion.

Organizers said they have invited the four PSC commissioners to grace the opening along with BAP regional director Regino "Boy" Cua, BAP 11 board of directors lawyers Reuben Abarquez and Emilio Dayanghirang, Rev. Gary Visitacion and Sam Pascual and women's basketball director Linda Tesoro.

Dubbed, "The Game of the Rising Stars", the tournament expects the University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats, JMC Kings and San Pedro College as the early favorites in the college event.

The Ateneo de Davao High School and Holy Child may again resume their rivalry in the junior category while Assumption College of Davao and Ateneo are the must-see teams in the girls and mini divisions, respectively.

The GS Cup is sponsored by Close Up, Revicon Ion, Gillette, Century Canning, Head and Shoulders, Rexona, Sunsport, Gatorade, Master Eskinol, Nivea for Men, Ad and Promo Management (APM), Mentos Power Gum and Roll.
