Open blitz chess tourney, inter-cities launching up
AN OPEN Blitz Tournament will be among the side events in the formal launching of the 2006 National Inter-Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championship at the Spazio, 3rd level of Gaisano Mall of Davao, at 11 a.m. Saturday.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto said the open event is set at 1 p.m. after the launch to be attended by NCFP president Prospero Pichay and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William Ramirez.
"There will also be a kiddie blitz tournament for 14 years old and below players. The kids can also play simul with National Master (NM) Jonathan Tan," he said in a statement to Sun.Star.
Cash prizes are up for grabs in both tournaments.
Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, city sports coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go, city councilor Leonardo Avila III, SK Federation Davao City president April Marie Dayap and City Tourism Officer Id Acaylar are also expected to grace the launch. (MLSA)
