Consumer-friendly establishments to be awarded seal of excellence
TO GIVE due recognition to establishments that uphold the rights of consumers, implement good business practices, and where consumers get best value for money, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently launched the Certified Establishment (CE) Program.
The DTI-CE Program is designed to promote and foster the highest level of business ethics and uphold a fair and honest marketplace through voluntary self-regulation and service excellence.
The CE Seal will be awarded to establishments, which will meet the following parameters: compliance with the Fair Trade Laws; customer relations; store management and operation; socially committed and responsible business sector; compliance to ISO 9000 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14000 (Environmental Management System).
The DTI-CE Seal symbolizes commitment to nurture, guide, and protect both the consumers and establishments from unfair trade practices.
Qualified to apply for certification are all retail establishments, supermarkets, department stores, appliance centers, hardware stores, and DTI accredited service and repair shops.
DTI regional director for Southern Mindanao Merly M. Cruz said this development will entail further protection among consumers.
"The establishments who have passed the parameters set by DTI can already boost that they do not only serve quality products but quality service as well. And they have to live with this status," she said.
The program also encourages the setting up of a sustainable Consumer Welfare Desk or a DTI-acknowledged service counter that will provide information to consumers and serves as mechanism for speedy resolution of consumer concerns.
