City celebrates nutrition month

THE City Agriculture's Office is celebrating the Nutrition month this July, with this year's theme "Kumain ng Right Para Maging Batang Bright."

City Agriculturist Rocelio Tabay said it has always been the practice of their office to celebrate the Nutrition month, promoting healthy eating among Dabawenyos.

Tabay said the City Government has allotted P15,000 for the two-day celebration from July 24 to 25.

City agriculturist Agnes Roble said a total of 70 farmers have participated in their celebration.

In the compound of the office, seven booths were set up displaying fruits and vegetables harvested by farmers from the 11 districts in the city.

"These fruits and vegetables were harvested from Marilog, Toril, Buhangin, Bunawan and the other districts. They will be sold in an affordable price, cheaper than those in wet markets," Roble said.

Roble said they will be holding free lectures and demos in their two-day celebration.

"Everybody is invited, even walk-ins can still join and learn from our lectures," Roble said Monday.

Roble said they will be conducting cooking demos on root crops processing, vegetable processing, fish utilization and meat processing.

She added that a lecture on incremental food production and vegetables seeds distribution will also be held to be conducted by the research and seedbank division of the office. (BRQ)
