City, labor dep't hold job fair

THE Davao City Government through the Human Resource and Management Office, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Southern Mindanao, is conducting a two-day job fair at SM mall on July 24 and 25.

City Administrator Wendel E. Avisado said a total of 38 companies have participated in the job fair.

Among them are the SM Department Store and Supermarket, Grand Regal Hotel, MG Mining and Energy Corporation, Homeworld, Gentrade International, Marco Polo Hotel, G-com Call Center and several others.

"This is the fourth year that the City Government is embarking on a jobs fair," Avisado said in his speech during the opening program of the job fair.

The city is expecting a total of 3,000 applicants.

"We are targeting that at least 50 percent of the applicants will be hired by this companies," Avisado said.

Avisado said less then 38 companies joined last year's job fair.

"Today there are 38 companies. This only shows that the economy of the city is good and we hope that by next year more companies will participate and will look for employees who will work for them," he said.

Avisado said the city embarked on the activity to offer job opportunities so people can be self-sufficient and help the City Government.

"God provided this activity for you (applicants) and the establishments to meet here," he said.

Avisado encouraged job applicants to give their best shot during their interview with the companies.

"Don't be shy and nervous, tell them you are accepting their offer to work in their company and not the other way around," he said. (BRQ)
