Davao giant says he's not ready for PBA yet By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
A STINT in the PBA can wait.
Thus said former University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats slotman Samigue Eman during the 12th So Kim Cheng Sports Foundation Awards Night where he was hailed most outstanding basketball player in Davao Region.
"I'll still play two more seasons in the PBL with the Henkel team, a sister company of Welcoat, before I join the big league," Eman told Sun.Star.
Eman said he is not too eager to join the pack of PBA rookie draftees this time, admitting that he needs two more PBL seasons for him to be ready for the pro-league.
"I hope I will be ready for PBA after two seasons with Henkel. I can have more time to gain strength. Magpapalaki pa ako ng katawan(smiles)," he said.
The 24-year-old cager, who is in Davao City for a vacation, said he will return to Manila in August to resume training for the new PBL conference opening in October.
When asked if he sees his towering six-foot-nine height as a sure ticket to the PBA, Eman was quick to reply: "I don't rely on my height. I haven't even checked on my height lately. I'm pushing myself to improve in my shooting and to gain more muscles so I can be very good in defense."
Eman was earlier named among three Welcoat mainstays who were drafted for the PBA. But he said there were technicalities that made him miss the cut.
